St. Timothy's School

The Commons and Redland Cafe

Location: Stevenson, MD
Project Completed: 2014
Size: 8,100 SF addition

SLAM architects designed a new 200-seat dining room, café and lounge for this girls boarding school. Envisioned by St. Timothy’s as “equal parts living room and dining room”, it is the major gathering space on campus that is used throughout the day. The dining room has a variety of seating options including traditional dining, high top and lounge furniture to meet both formal and informal gatherings. Positioned at a central point on campus, the exterior is primarily glass to serve as a welcoming beacon and affords magnificent campus views. This glass is complemented with natural stone, wood and copper siding to reflect the more traditional buildings on campus. The interior was inspired by the clean and crisp lines of Shaker architecture with elements symbolic of the school’s heritage and the warmth of a fireplace.
