SLAM names five new principals

GLASTONBURY, Conn., October 20, 2020 – The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM) has recently named five new principals located in our Atlanta, GA, Denver, CO, Iowa City, IA, Orlando, FL, and Philadelphia, PA offices.  On March 6, 2020, SLAM completed the acquisition of five CBRE I Heery architectural design practices focused on healthcare, sports facilities and justice, adding to the firms existing education, corporate, healthcare and sports/recreation practices. These five new Principals, and approximately 70 Heery employees, joined SLAM’s team of 210 professionals.  Please meet SLAM’s new principals and learn about their expertise below:

John Castner, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP – SLAM Philadelphia office

With more than 36 years of experience, John leads our Philadelphia Office.  A graduate of Penn State University, his experience in programming, planning and design of healthcare and higher education projects includes work at Yale New Haven Hospital, Temple University, University of Pennsylvania, and Doylestown Hospital in Doylestown, PA. John’s expertise includes complex renovations and additions, transforming emergency departments, cardiac care, surgery, and radiology facilities.

Scott Hansche, AIA – SLAM Iowa City office

Scott brings more than 35 years of experience as the lead of our Iowa City Office.  A graduate of Iowa State University, his passion for healthcare design has led to serving such clients as the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, VA Medical Center in Iowa City and Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA.  Scott specializes in leading project teams for teaching hospitals and academic medical centers worldwide. He has produced several thought-leadership pieces on healthcare related topics, including the recent co-authored piece in Healthcare Design, “Decompression Space in Behavioral Health.”

Michael Holleman, RA, NCARB, LEED AP – SLAM Atlanta office

Mike leads our Sports practice nationally and in the last 40 years, he has designed more than 250 sports facilities, specializing in collegiate stadiums, arenas, Olympic sports venues and player/team development facilities.  A graduate of Kent State University, his portfolio includes work at Clemson, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, University of Arizona, University of Arkansas and the conversion of the Atlanta Olympic Stadium to Turner Field to the now Georgia State University Stadium.

Douglas Kleppin, AIA – SLAM Orlando Office

As the lead of our Orlando Office, Douglas has more than 33 years of experience as lead designer and planner for courthouses, strategically solving complex planning and design issues across the country at both the county and federal levels. These include many award-winning facilities in Indianapolis, IN; Everett, WA; Waynesville, NC; New Port Richey, FL; Clayton, MO; Wilmington, ED; Albuquerque, NM.  A graduate of Georgia Tech, he has also managed a variety of projects at Walt Disney World.

Russell Sedmak, RA – SLAM Denver Office

With more than 33 years of experience, Russ leads our Denver Office. A graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder, he has led the award-winning design of large and technically complex healthcare projects. His expertise includes master plans, phased renovations, additions and greenfield medical campuses. His clients have included University of Colorado Health; Yale New Haven Hospital, Aspen Valley Hospital; Denver Health Medical Center; Poudre Valley Health System in Fort Collins, CO; VA Medical Center at Cheyenne, WY.
