Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was established in 1968 and is part of the Tata Group. Since 1969, the TCS US corporate headquarters has occupied space on the 26th of an iconic building at 101 Park Avenue in Manhattan. Prior to the renovation, the TCS office configuration was comprised of perimeter offices and internal open workspaces. Over time, it was expanded and renovated in phases and lacked a cohesive corporate image, did not maximize all of the available square footage, and created visual obstructions to daylight and views.
The renovation, completed in May 2013 included 20 percent growth in space. The design involved standardizing office and workstation sizes and concentrating most offices and enclosed spaces on the interior with full glass storefronts, which resulted in 40 percent occupancy increase to accommodate current and future growth, and access to daylight and views to all spaces.
SLAM’s design philosophy for TCS was to clearly articulate the company’s mission and values, and to express its identity with a design that combines innovation with an enduring elegance.
These objectives were achieved through combining thoughtful environmental branding, providing an efficient space layout and technology to support work processes and fulfill business needs, while providing well-appointed amenities, and choices in work settings to foster collaboration and enhance productivity.
The new corporate headquarters elevates the corporate image and expresses the company’s creative and innovative approaches to business as well as its pride of the Tata Group heritage.
