Nurturing Passionate Collaborators

Relationship building is fostered through regular internal events beginning with the monthly First Friday Happy Hour, where colleagues gather to learn about new projects, participate in fun activities and/or design challenges, or simply catch up.  Other annual signature events across offices include the Firm Summer Picnic, Thanksgiving Harvest Luncheon, and Holiday Party.  Monthly Lunch & Learns, providing continuing education credits, are hosted by industry-wide vendors on a range of topics and presented to team members in our Innovation Center.

Our relaxed culture encourages team members to communicate via our intranet, Insite, regarding their personal work, share industry news, and recognize colleague and project accomplishments.  The firm has their own 4 Under Forty program that features up and coming professionals on the rise. Building Relationships

Our workplace design is organized in collaborative neighborhoods, cultivating natural interactions and inspiring deeper relationships that often extend to extracurricular activities. Employees can be found engaging in lunch time power walks, dining at one of the many nearby eateries, or in after-hours training for a terrain race and gearing up for a game of golf and softball.

Advancement

Our studio structure provides emerging designers a range of opportunities for them to serve in a variety of project roles that will advance them as professionals. Project teams are structured so that emerging professionals are involved from the early stages of conceptual design through construction administration. What sets us apart is the continuum of involvement team members are given on projects. The same employee that documents the project can follow the project through construction.

SLAM licensure

Licensure

Licensure is encouraged to employees through updated study materials, paid time off for testing and reimbursement for passed exam fees when they receive licensure. In addition, study groups, both formal and informal, are formed and supported throughout the offices.

SLAM mentorship

Mentorship

Our culture is one that supports mentorship, staff development, community leadership, and work-life balance throughout your career. Roles on projects, opportunities for advancement, mentoring and learning opportunities are diverse and plentiful. We assign junior staff a role on all projects and encourage engagement in industry organizations and knowledge-sharing through local and national groups such as Professional Women in Construction, AIA and ASLA. Many of our experienced professionals hold leadership roles at these organizations. The firm has developed relationships with various schools and actively promotes diversity in the workplace, at our job sites and in our community service.
