GLASTONBURY, CT, August 4, 2026 – The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM) and RTA Architects are combining forces in a strategic merger, bringing together two nationally recognized design firms with a shared commitment to the communities they serve and a client-first design philosophy. Rooted in SLAM and RTA’s shared values, the move marks a commitment to both nationwide and local impact.
With complementary strengths, the merger creates a stronger platform to support organizations in healthcare, K–12 schools, higher education, and science and technology. Clients will benefit from a wider range of integrated services, deeper technical specialization, and local teams backed by national resources—while continuing to receive the personal relationships, responsiveness, and hands‑on collaboration that define both firms.
By combining RTA’s design leadership throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region with SLAM’s national resources, the merger ensures that local projects will benefit from an even deeper pool of technical specialization and expanded expertise.
“This partnership enhances our ability to take on more complex and diverse projects while staying deeply connected to the communities we serve,” added Doug Abernethy, Principal at RTA. “Our clients will gain the advantages of expanded expertise and national collaboration, and our staff will benefit from broader career pathways and cross‑office opportunities.”
“SLAM and RTA have each built reputations on purposeful growth and design excellence,” said Greg Coles, SLAM’s Chairman. “Together, we can amplify the impact we deliver for clients across the country while preserving the trusted, personal service they rely on. With rapid transformation happening across the sectors we serve, this is the right moment to combine our strengths.”
As part of the merger, RTA’s nine owners will continue local leadership of the practice, while contributing to the firm’s national direction and strategy.
Founded in 1976, SLAM is an award-winning architecture and construction services firm with 280 professionals across 10 U.S. offices. RTA Architects brings more than 50 years of design leadership throughout the region, with a portfolio recognized for excellence in K-12 education and healthcare design.
