The Lexington School identified the need to address overcrowding and a desire for a modest enrollment increase. SLAM developed a campus master plan that brought clarity to a facility that had been added to over the years. The plan accommodated a the moderate enrollment increase while providing renovated and new facilities that reflected a change to a project-based pedagogy, while also strengthening the campus layout.

Devise a plan that first pays homage to the surrounding historic context, yet fosters Lexington School’s curriculum and collaborative approach to education with a 21^st century design that addresses current overcrowding, accommodates future enrollment increases and latest technologies, and provides common spaces.

Phase 1 of the Master Plan, the new Lower School Wing, uses a bold curve to set it apart from the existing facility, defining a new campus green and setting the stage for future projects.

Phase 2 of the Master Plan includes the addition of a new Academic Center, athletic fields and playgrounds. The new shared Academic Center anchors the three academic divisions – Preschool, Lower School and Middle School, creating a strong front door to the building and allowing each division direct access to a covered drop-off and plaza.
