MEDICAL CLINIC IN CANEILLE, HAITI:
The Caneille Haiti Medical Mission has been traveling yearly to Haiti since the 2010 earthquake to setup a temporary clinic and provide medical attention to those in desperate need. SLAM completed a pro bono effort for a new medical building to serve the local community. Our team prepared schematic design drawings for the local engineers to use in constructing the permanent medical clinic adjacent to Calvary Chapel’s existing campus. SLAM is honored to partner in an initiative that will provide year-round healthcare for this community in need.

SEA TEA IMPROV IN HARTFORD, CT:
After entertaining Hartford audiences in various venues such as City Steam Brewery, HartBeat Ensemble’s Carriage House Theater, Billings Forge, and Real Art Ways, Sea Tea Improv was ready for a theater of its own. SLAM designed its new 3,800 SF black box comedy theater on Asylum Street in downtown Hartford, complete with donated materials.

ST. JOSEPH’S ORPHANAGE, “AMAKURA KENYA ORPHANAGE”:
SLAM worked in partnership with Little Sisters’ Angel Fund to develop a new home for St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Amukura, Kenya. The Little Sisters of St. Francis identified a need to care for orphaned children abandoned by families who could not care for them. A conceptual design and fundraising package have been provided for new housing and kitchen facilities. It replaces the existing 67-year-old facility on more fertile land with the potential to live a better, self-sustaining lifestyle.

AVON OLD FARMS SCHOOL, VETERANS TRIBUTE:
SLAM organized and ran an internal design competition for a veteran’s tribute in honor of Avon Old Farms School alumni, who served their country in war and in peace. The construction budget was $200,000 and SLAM’s scope included the coordination and execution of the project through construction.

CLIFFORD BEERS CLINIC:
SLAM provided programming and site selection services to Clifford Beers Clinic, a mental health clinic serving children and families in the greater New Haven area. Our team collaborated with the Clinic to understand the amount of space needed for a new specialty clinic for children with autism and victims of trauma, resulting in a “concept” sensory room rendering developed by our team and presented to potential donors.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY:
SLAM supports a variety of Habitat for Humanity projects by organizing teams to donate their time over a weekend and pitch in as needed to construct walls, staircases and insulation. The nonprofit Christian organization partners with future and current homeowners to build safe, decent, and affordable homes for working families.

CANSTRUCTION:
CANstruction is an annual event that SLAM participates in across several of our offices. Team members partner with area schools or industry organizations to collect cans and construct thematic pieces that are put on display and/or entered in a competition. CANstruction’s mission is to highlight the issue of hunger across communities, collect food for distribution to thousands and to showcase the creativity of the design industry.

TURKEY + 30 FOR FOODSHARE:
SLAM participates in the annual Turkey + 30 Program that works to raise money and collect turkeys to support the needs of the Greater Hartford community during the Holiday season and to support Foodshare’s efforts to fight hunger year-round.

PARK(ING) DAY IN CAMBRIDGE, MA:
SLAM joins in the annual Park(ing) Day, introducing participants to our firm through fun and games, seating, and refreshments to pedestrians in a temporary pop up park. The event brings together community groups, non-profit organizations, businesses, artists, and City of Cambridge programs to celebrate community and all things Cambridge. The annual event encourages the community to reclaim and reimagine public spaces.

RELAY FOR LIFE:
SLAM Team participates in Glastonbury’s Relay for Life annually, taking part in several themed laps, the Luminaria Ceremony, and a 5K race. The event remembers those lost to cancer, honors those who have fought cancer in the past, and supports those whose fight continues, with candles lit inside personalized bags placed around the Relay track.

AIA CT WOMEN IN ARCHITECTURE:
SLAM is an active participant in the AIA Connecticut Women in Architecture Committee, which provides an environment for women architects and allied professionals to enhance their professional development, networking, and leadership skills. The committee also supports strengthening community outreach, partnering with the Girl Scouts STEMagination event, working with girls in grades 4 -7 to explain all facets of being an architect, from construction of a building, how they communicate design to drawings and specifications.

CF CYCLE FOR LIFE:
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation “CF Cycle for Life” is an annual event SLAM supports through donations, volunteer staffing of event tables, and team members on two wheels. They pull together for “Team Sutton Grace” to raise awareness and research funding.
