Seymour Johnson Airforce Base

Medical Clinic

the story

Located at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina, this project included construction of a new medical clinic to replace an existing 50-year old facility. Seven phases of construction were included in the design to allow for construction and operation of the new facility prior to demolition of the old clinic.

SLAM (formerly Heery Design) provided complete civil engineering services for the 24-acre site that included roadway improvements, turn lane addition, utility extensions, parking lot design and new stormwater management systems. CBRE | Heery was architect-of-record.

The stormwater and landscape design adhered to strict Air Force requirements and best practices.

Because the site is located within an active jet fighter aviation base, stormwater and landscaping features were chosen to minimize the possibility of bird colonies nesting or roosting on the site.

A new stormwater pumping station was provided at the loading dock area to address drainage needs.

Site security features meeting the latest Department of Defense requirements were incorporated into the design. These features included retractable bollards, gate arms and building standoff distances.

SLAM Civil Engineers provided documentation and support for
all Sustainable Sites credits.
