University of Texas, Multiple Athletic Facility Upgrades

The design team was engaged by the University of Texas to establish a new benchmark for stadium excellence through increasing the capacity of the stadium from 75,000 seats to 115,000, enhancing player amenities to help with recruitment and retention, and expanding fan amenities, high-end suites, and club seats to help generate revenue.

The major design components of the athletics expansion and renovation projects have touched and enhanced every part of the stadium, from seating, suites and high-end locker rooms to team and practice facilities, food courts, and more.

Expansion of the west grandstand included the addition of new suites that were retrofitted beneath the overhang of the upper grandstand.

The east grandstand’s development had multiple facets. 5,100 new seats and 52 luxury suites, converted bench seats to 1,200 club chair seats, brought online a club lounge and grill with full-service kitchen.

Renovation and expansion of the Moncrief-Neuhaus Field House was a two-phase project involving UT’s existing team facilities building in the south end zone.

The 10-level expansion of the north end zone includes 22,000 new bench seats, 47 suites, a 2,500-person club, and a year-round food court.

Multiple Projects Include

ERWIN CENTER AND COOLEY PAVILION

Master planning, design, and architecture services for the Erwin Center improvements. The $50 million improvements included new suites and concourse improvements, life safety and ADA analysis, as well as a seating bowl reconfiguration.

ERWIN CENTER AND COOLEY PAVILION

Cooley Pavilion, the new $17.5 million basketball practice facility was constructed adjacent to the Erwin Center.

VOLLEYBALL DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Opened in 2015, the new Volleyball Development Center converted 26,750 SF of shelled space 30’ beneath DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium into a world-class Women’s Volleyball practice facility and team hospitality area.

VOLLEYBALL DEVELOPMENT CENTER

By maximizing space within a constraining location, the design team focused on incorporating the UT Austin brand through the use of furniture, material textures, and pattern applications and finishes.

VOLLEYBALL DEVELOPMENT CENTER

The $8.8 million Volleyball Development Center accommodates several functions for the Volleyball program, from practice courts, equipment storage and video production to higher-end coaches’ and players’ locker room and lounges.

ATHLETIC NUTRITION CENTER

The Texas Athletic Nutrition Center (TANC) provides a multi-use venue that transitions from a day-to-day training table for student-athletes into a revenue generating club on Football gamedays. Located in the North End Zone, the TANC hosts over 500 student-athletes daily. With action stations for food and beverage service, interactive mobile and in-person food coaching, and a best-in-class nutrition staff, Texas athletes receive an empowering education to improve performance and overall health through proper fueling techniques.

SPORTS MEDICINE AND STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

The design team transformed 32,500 SF of space within the lower levels of DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium’s North End Zone into a state-of-the-art sports medicine and strength training facility.

This advanced training facility is used by all athletes for training, treatment, rehabilitation, and agility.

MYER’S SOCCER AND TRACK & FIELD STADIUM

The new 20,000-seat European-style track and soccer stadium and 1,200-car parking structure provides a new home for Track and Field, as well as Soccer for Longhorn Athletics. The project also includes new locker rooms and training facilities. The dual-sport venue highlights a nine-land European oval featuring a wider turn radius that traditional tracks to allow for more speed in the turns.
