Stonehill College

Leo J. Meehan School of Business

the story

The new Leo J. Meehan School of Business offers 63,500 SF of cutting-edge technology, adaptive classrooms and collaboration spaces.  Defining the south side of the campus academic quad, the building aids in activating the area with the flow of students and faculty. The front porch provides a welcoming area for study and social connection. The building’s Georgian architecture is designed to reflect the true spirit of the Stonehill community and campus, while the interior is designed to encourage innovation and to introduce students to advanced business environments. The building features a Bloomberg classroom, simulated trading environments and maker space, allowing the School space to expand the curriculum, introduce graduate level programs, and encompass the accounting, finance, international business, management, marketing, economics and healthcare administration curricula.

INSIGHT

In 2016, SLAM completed updates to Stonehill College’s Master Plan, providing a framework to better align the physical plan of the academic campus with the reconfiguration of various academic programs, including a newly created School of Business. The school’s curriculum has been expanded to encompass the accounting, finance, international business, management, marketing, economics and healthcare administration programs.

SOLUTION

The new signature building better defines and energizes the existing main quadrangle, capturing the grandeur of classical Georgian architecture on campus, placing it in the center of activities between the library to the west and residential precinct to the east, presenting powerful visual connections back to the historic Donahue Hall.

IMPACT
“

Now that we have settled into our new home, the energy and enthusiasm for learning I see from the faculty and students who spend their days here is incredible. Our focus is on using the new tools available in the Meehan Building to ensure our students go on to become talented, successful and ethical business leaders.
